| ELKHART LAKE, Wis. French rookie Franck Perera (#11 CJ Motorsport/Everflux/Perfect Nutrition) upped the ante in Saturday morning's Cooper Tires Presents The Champ Car Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda practice session for the Generac Grand Prix at Road America. Perera turned the quickest Atlantic lap of the weekend thus far with a lap at 1:59.179 (122.277 mph) in the Condor Motorsports machine. The Frenchman is looking for his fourth consecutive front-row starting spot in this afternoon's final qualifying session and has finished on the podium in his last seven consecutive starts. "It was a pretty good session," Perera said. "We improved the car a little bit from yesterday, but that's normal. The first day is always to learn the track and everything. We showed again right away on the first day that we're competitive. Today was good. The car is really similar to what I had in Mont-Tremblant. I could drive like I want and really smooth. We had a good gap the whole session. The car was pretty easy to drive, so that's good. I tried to make a run like a race. I kept the used tires and I had my mind on the race, so that's really, really good. We beat the pole from yesterday, so I think for the afternoon, I'm pretty confident." |
